My name is Lydia and I am a 24 year old aspiring illustrator, character concept designer and animator. From an...

As I primarily have skills in illustration and design, I am able to produce work to a professional standard both traditionally and digitally. I have compiled a brief selection of designs taken from the production process of my FMP animation, ‘Monday’s Special: The Untapped Goldmine’. The collection of images range from initial character designs, colour palettes, background art and finally the animation poster. I chose these images to showcase my talents as a concept artist and illustrator. The first image shows one of the very first designs for ‘Rafferty’, the animations main character. This design was produced traditionally using pencil and inking techniques.

Next, are examples of my character colour palettes for ‘Rafferty’ and ‘Sidney Anchor’, by creating something like this for each character I was able to plan the rest of the animations colour scheme accordingly. These pieces were produced digitally using Adobe Photoshop.

For my background pieces, I produced a range of interior and exterior scenes. For the exterior scenes, a lot of my inspiration came from my home town, beside the sea. I opted for dull colour schemes as they helped to contrast the characters against each of the backgrounds. All background art was planned and coloured using Adobe Photoshop.

Finally, I produced a poster for my animated short. I have kept the poster simple, whilst still introducing the main character and story theme. I also produced this piece digitally. As a budding concept artist and illustrator, I will be continuing on my journey and developing my design skills further.
