I am a freelance illustrator and graphic designer that likes to think outside the box. I enjoy the whole creative...

The main purpose of this project was to inspire children to get involved with a book, to go on a journey with some of the marine life that live in our oceans as they turn the pages, learning as they go. An interactive book, aimed at 7 -11 year olds, that will encourage learning, curiosity and creativity.

I have designed an illustrated book that takes you on a colossal expedition with humpback whales as they travel South through the Atlantic Ocean on their annual 7000km migration. The book is filled with facts and information about the humpbacks and some of the animals they might meet along the way. It contains cut out and fold out pages, a giant interactive map with stickers of the animals featured in the book, and a set of postcards that the readers can send to their friends and family to tell them of their own adventures. All of the illustrations were created by hand with inks, watercolour and acrylic paints, and includes pages that were printed onto acetate and tracing paper to add texture and depth to the pages.

I have always wanted to create an illustrated children’s book, and this final major project provided me the perfect opportunity to use the skills, knowledge and experience I have developed whilst on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design Degree, such as using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, along side more traditional methods of print and collage, to make it happen.
