My name is Ashleigh and I am 22 years old. I have now finished studying a TV & Film Production...

'Without the entertainment industry... How would you cope? Would we be boring? Would we have imagination and creativity?

My documentary (Suppressed Creativity), has covered the aspects that display neglect within the entertainment industry. It shows examples from articles to live news on how the entertainment industry isn't taken seriously and how it is looked upon as an 'non genuine' job. I hope that this documentary will provide my audience with realisation that without the creative arts industry people may struggle if not, find themselves bored without it. This is to broaden the knowledge of how important the industry really is.

I decided to create this piece not only to enlighten my audience of how the industry works and how important it is, but also to highlight the complexity and diversity of the industry as a serious profession. My personal experiences have involved many encounters whereby people I meet don't see my studies and career choices as more than a hobby, until I explain further and discuss my freelance work, which often leads people to consider the production work involved in what may appear as a simple entertaining pastime to the public. I feel because the media industry provides so much in the way of entertainment and escapism, viewer’s don't tend to think about the work involved to provide this essential service. This is why I chose to create a documentary for my final project on this subject.

Going forward, I would like to create further work on this subject and include the cut of funding for creative arts courses as this further supports the theories that the entertainment industry, despite being utilised and enjoyed by the majority of the population, is still not viewed as a serious career choice.

Give this some love
